Religion v/s Homosexuality

The decriminalization of IPC 377 (as per the Constitution of India) has met with varying reaction from different quarters of the society. Quite evidently, the most staunch criticism has come from the religious leaders, and while watching this debate "Religion v/s Homosexuality" on IBN, I witnessed a rare occasion where all religious leaders unanimously agreed on something.

However, this has lead me to think just why is religion so against the concept of homosexuality, why are all religions homophobic? On the surface, it may seem that Baba Ramdev, among others, is protesting against it because they believe its unnatural and against our tradition, but something tells me that this goes deeper. I believe that there is something about homosexuality which threatens the very notion of God and religion. That such is the relationship between the two concepts, that they can not coexist, or so the religious leaders believe.

Also, it is easier to understand that Christianity opposes homosexuality, since they don't even like sexual intercourse without the intention of reproduction, but its difficult to understand why a more open religion like Hinduism, which openly exhibits its approval of sexual union through scriptures like Kamasutra and sculptures in Khajuraho disagrees with homosexuality too. (I must accept that my knowledge of Christianity is limited and I may be wrong, also I may have missed references to homosexuality in Kamasutra and Khajuraho).

The most plausible explanation that comes to my mind right now is that all religions are based on the notion of Creationism, that a divine power was associated with the creation of everything, this world, life... everything. Homosexuality, or more precisely homosexual intercourse which has been decriminalized, is anything but in favour of creationism. A sexual act of consent between two adults of the same sex in private is definitely not meant for creation, it is hundred percent pleasure for those with the gay orientation. Thus, the contradiction between the two concepts- religion and homosexuality.

There was an argument by a Hindu religious scholar, that there is no scientific evidence of homosexuality in any other member of the animal kingdom. My point exactly. Since, religion and creationism are against Evolution, how can any religion accept the fact that perhaps, the human species has evolved into something which may also exhibit homosexual tendencies.

The Kamasutra is not a religious scripture and has nothing to do with Hinduism as a religion. All it is, is ancient. Therefore, everything that the Kamasutra contains can not be automatically considered Hindu mandate.

@ akhil.. good point.

anyway, one can safely say however that hinduism as a religion doesn't prohibit sexual recreation. and if you consider hinduism as more of a way of life than a religion (as attributed by vhp scholars), then kamasutra is an integral part of that way of life, which prompted me to claim that hinduism is perhaps a little more open than christianity in this contet.

the point u made about religious leaders using evolution as a excuse shows how shameless these people are.they will never accept evolution other wise but instead of their creationalism theories but now forced into desperation they will fall into ny depths
